Title: custom tank questions Post by andylaughs on 10/16/08 at 20:37:20 I'm currently tearing down my '87 for a bobber build. I'm wondering what custom tanks people have used and any mounting issues they may have had. I'm leaning toward HD-type tanks (peanut, coffin, mustang, etc), but wondering what sort of mounting issues I'll run into with top tube differences, etc. I'm not afraid to weld, but I'd rather not buy 2-3 different tanks until I find one that will mount up.

Title: Re: custom tank questions Post by Demin on 10/16/08 at 20:51:44 This is a 2.4 gallon Sportster tank.I welded a connector nut(nut that is about 2" long)to the backbone for the front mount.The rear I cut the mount off of the original tank,and welded it to the rear of the Sporty tank.The Mustang tank won't work good with the stock backbone because it has to sit on top off the frame where it splits into two,where it goes under the seat. http://w2.bikepics.com/pics/2007/09/09/bikepics-1018371-800.jpg
