Title: Head light change Post by Jimmer on 10/14/08 at 08:59:42 Does anyone know of a brighter head lamp for my 2000 savage? I'd like to get a little more illumination for night riding. Is there a replacement bulb for the existing lamp. Jimmer |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by mikestrikes on 10/14/08 at 09:29:57 Most all headlights have a H4 bulb.......... you can get many upgrades for it for little cash,, I think I pay'd $10 and got a Silver Star bulb and it was WAY brighter... Go to your local Wal-Mart or any Auto Parts store.... |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by BurnPgh on 10/14/08 at 13:06:12 The silverstar is great. The high beam, as my friend put it, is "like...wha-BAM!" |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by dropoutjohn on 10/14/08 at 15:35:34 careful though, i put one brighter bulb in mine and it melted the wiring harness socket to the bulb! 6.00 replacement, but what a pain in the a$$. |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by thumperclone on 10/14/08 at 15:57:27 be mindfull of the wattage 55/60(stock) wont burn up the wires or the plastic pieces parts.. brightness is rated by the kelvin scale the higher the brighter.. aux lighting helps for closer in side to side illumination.. |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by bill67 on 10/14/08 at 17:17:55 I have a 50/100 in mine when you have the brights on your moving so the air flow keeps it cool. |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by Rogue_Cheddar on 10/14/08 at 18:40:51 I recently did the Silverstar bulb upgrade. Worth it! Also don't forget to clean inside the reflector and lens. Mine were pretty fogged up. What a huge difference! I have no problem riding at night with this upgrade. |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by sluggo on 10/14/08 at 23:45:27 i've thought about an upgrade, but i grew up with vw's, i'm quite comfortable with braking and illumination systems that are somewhat lacking. and often over ride both systems capacity. i too am looking to upgrade the whole assembly, just need to find something that's right of ole thumper. speaking of light, it's the full moon, midnight, and still sixtyfive degrees. time for a ride i reckon. |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by SV og LS on 10/15/08 at 01:20:36 I reckon the proper way of upgrading is rewire & relays. Now I only loose 0.11 volts between battery and bulb socket. |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by Jimmer on 10/15/08 at 04:02:39 Thanks for the Information> I think I'll go with the Silverstar and try to stay in the wattage range . Jimmer |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by Bear_Rider on 10/15/08 at 13:53:50 Which Silverstar are we talking about here? I've looked around in stores in a haphazard manner and found all sorts of Silverstars, none of which appeared to be for motorcycles, if you went by the labeling on the box/shelf. A little light in the darkness, please. ;) |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by Rogue_Cheddar on 10/15/08 at 15:47:37 It's an H4. It'll say for ATV's and motorcycles on the blister pack. Most auto stores will carry it. |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by mikestrikes on 10/15/08 at 19:09:55 Yes look for an H-4 .... Also when upgrading to a whole new unit whats the best over all "Size" of light the Savage looks the best with ? Bigger than stock. Stock. Smaller than stock. |
Title: Re: Head light change Post by Trippah on 10/15/08 at 20:35:41 Bigger is better ;) (at least so I've heard.) |
