Title: New Suzuki Street Single!

It's the GZ250 in standard trim, except....

Upgraded to Fuel Injection with a catalytic converter and O2 feedback system -- they're meeting tighter emissions, which means the little guy should still be around for a while.

If this thing sells we might get to see the big single in standard trim -- they still have to have the tooling for the Tempter's frame.  Maybe bring the 400cc Savage/Tempter to the U.S..

I'll stick with my Savage.  Don't need the added complexity, or decrease in power.  Should get great mileage though...

What I find interesting is that we are seeing an addition of an entry level / strictly city bike -- head to head competition for Honda's 250 Nighthawk 'cept having a front disk vs. the CB's drum and being $200 cheaper.  Hopefully this is the beginning of more smaller displacement bikes in old school street trim.

While a 250 would do, it's marginal, at least for Los Angeles.  When you get into the 400cc range and you have something light and easy to ride, more than acceptable on city & freeway, and even capable of cross country trips.  I would give up my Savage for a 400 Tempter (http://savage.andruschak.net/tempter/Image3.jpg), if such were ever to be offered in the States.

I see your point...Wouldn't mind a shift away from the bigger is better mindset...
I've always admired efficiency.

Beautiful bike, looks like a little Triumph in the styling.
And a 3.17 gal gas tank!
The seat looks even more uncomfortable than the Savage's, though. ;)

Can anyone photoshop the Tenmpter's front fork&drum brake onto the Savage?

I think the result would be extremely interesting... ;)

The new model, the TU250, doesn't even have a name yet.  It has the same engine as the GZ250.
The Tempter was an '80's bike, never brought to the States, that used the 400cc version of our engine:

Yeah, I'd go for the Tempter with a 650 engine and disc brake!

I would definitely be tempted!

Palidin,
Do you know the model number for the Tempter???

Red Wine has a LS400 with a bad piston.  He's having a hard time getting parts.  Having a second model to search for would help.

I'm not Palidin but Tempter 400 is ST400. I reckon there are more LS400's in western world than ST's, but it is remotely possible there's an abandoned ST400 somewhere. Hope Red_Wine sees this.

Excelent.  The TS400 was exported, a quick web search found a 2000 model for sale in Australia and another in the UK.  The UK one claims a legal 33bhp.  Seems everone else in the world has access to great middleweight motorcycles.

If you meant ST400, all the ST's in Europe are grey imports. There were a few grey import dealers (selling models imported from Japan including Jap only models) in England a few years ago when official prices were a bit inflated. Check out also the Suzuki 350 Goose.

Reading through the auto-translated version of the Japanese Wikipedia is tough work, but interesting nonetheless.  ST400 article (http://tinyurl.com/46szol)

When Babel Fished, the japanese Wikipedia ends the article: " But reputation in the market is not good, 2000 model has become production end lastly."  :D

Nice bike, needs our motor.

Any idea how far it will go on a tank?

Has anyone done EFi w/o a converter on a 650?

Title: Re: New Suzuki Street Single!
Post by Paladin. on 10/14/08 at 17:55:44

The TU250 has a 3.17 gallon tank.  They don't give an estimated mileage figure, but it should be at least as good as the GZ250.  They rate the GZ250 at 82 mpg.  They rate our Savage at 63 mpg!?  So figure about 70 mpg city riding, about the same highway as it's working to maintain speed.  An easy 180 miles per tank, probably closer to 200.

More of a dark burgandy on my screen, it may be the replacement for the Savage.  Front disk, brake and shifter no longer crossing over, 8.5:1 compression (up from 6.5:1) and FI....   I wonder if it'll be a 50-state bike, the current Enfields do not meet California requirements.

I spoke with an Enfield dealer a couple of months back. She indicated that Californians would still need a "48" address to get the RE into Cali. She stated that they sell a good many to family here in Texas, and then ship the thing to Cali as soon as the paperwork is done. By  "48" I guess that means you can't import them to Hawaii either.

Oh, I must have the green version.  Do you think any will be shipped to rural Ohio? ;D

That is a gorgeous, classic beauty of a bike.

i saw the whole line in kaneohe,HI about 3 months ago... my GF and i decided that it would be a good thing to bring our new-born child to a cool mc shop for his first time out into the consumerist culture... but anyway, the 500 was sweet! and only about $4,000.
