Title: blue smoke
Post by kennycreed on 10/04/08 at 21:48:07

Hi there, Is it possible for oil to leak into the cylinder from cylinder head when the bike is over on the stand. I get a cloud of blue smoke on start up, but it clears up after about sixty seconds running and after that no problem, clean exhaust when running and no oil usage..cheers,,kenny

Dude! More info on your bike so we can help you narrow down the problem. Year? Miles? Any mod on your carb lately? Does it smoke on every start?

What kind of mileage do you have on the bike?
There some oil getting in there from some where, probably your valve guides are worn and you get a little drop or two leak down into the combustion chamber, cant be to much if it burns off that quick, but keep you eye on it,and your ears.

Sounds like valve guides to me.  There's enough gap and therefore it leaks down in the cylinder.  Keep eye on oil, like other poster said, its probably pretty minor since it only smokes for a bit.

If you rings are worn, then the oil gets pushed into the cylinder and slips past the rings.  Another way to burn oil.  Compression test will tell you if its the rings most likely. (Or suggest that's the cause.)
