I have one more question for you guys to help me with.
Anyone got a stock piston out lay'n around ?

I want to know the measurement from the center of the wrist pin to the top of the piston please.

Also whats the number from the top of the piston to the top of the jug,, or how far does a stock piston sit in the bore >>>>

I have a stock piston... but..... it's melted and some what warped.

Here's an image of first OEM oversize verse the stock melted piston.

I watched "How its made" on SciCh and they covered pistons. It's absolutely amazing how they do it. Even my wife was amazed, if you get a chance try to look it up.

And I know its been covered but how can I get replacement pistons in over sizes for a rebuild ?

Standard over sizes should be available from Suzuki or Wiseco. Wiseco has a couple designed for the DR-650 that should in theory allow the Savage be "punched out" a bit to something like 670cc-680cc. 8-)

Prob is even if you find a piston of the right dia it wont have the right numbers from the wrist pen to the piston top as the LS has a 94mm stroke, this is why I want that number. And pen dia..
So even if its a piston from a car as long as that number along with the corrct dia I know if it will work or hit the valves..

Ok... measured the old piston. Remember it's melted so numbers may off a tiny bit.

Wrist pin is approx 15/16 inch.
top of wrist pin to top of piston is approx 5/8 inch.

Do the math for center of wirst pin to top of piston........

Numbers in inches so you need to convert to metric...

Yes... the good one is in the engine.... ;)

I got it at the Suzuki dealer. It was their first OEM over-size "kit". I think it's 0.5mm over. It should be noted that the Suzuki kit does not include a wirst pin.

www.ronayers.com has a parts page. See the "OEM parts" page , then Suzuki "motorcycles", then year, then model. The Ron Ayers site has good prices. Shipping can be slow sometimes, other times it's fast.

My dealers' site is:
