Title: New Saddlebags
Post by flcruzr on 09/25/08 at 18:31:09

Hello Everyone!  I just installed new saddlebags on my bike so I wanted to share the pics of the final look:

I would like to thank ALfromN.H for his assistance and tips on the install.

Very nice, I love it. Too bad you agreed to give the bike to me after you installed the bags.  ;) ;D ;)

Very nice hardtops bags. They finish off the bike really well and have a good size to them. Did you purchase them with the color or had them painted?

Wow!!!

Looks great

Love 'em

Although to me, the bottom should be horizontal.

Looks super sharp.  Is that a drop side door on those saddlebags?

I assume you are using the saddlebag lights for your turn signals.  With the addition of a Trailer Tail Light Converter (http://www.iboats.com/Attwood_Road_Ready_Trailer_Tail_Light_Converter_Standard_Kit/dm/view_id.163817) you should be able to add brake light capability in addition to the turn signals -- legal since they are red.

Verslagen:  Thats the look I was going for (horizontal) but then the top did not match the curves of the fender so I opted for the curves to match.  Its not as noticeable when the bike is in the upright riding position.  (thanks for the keen observation)  :P

Yonuhadisi: i'm sorry I must have been dazed or confused when we made that agreement...  ;D

Thanks everyone for your thoughts...the bags came painted, they are available in white, black and silver.

Very nice, neat how you didn't have to get them painted.

Where did you buy them and for how much?

I like the look! Just curious... do you park your bike outside at night, and could you give me your exact address? What tools are needed to remove them...I mean "Install" them.. ;D

Actually, I was thinking of the same bags from Mutazu, and it is nice to see how they look since my bike is the same color as yours.  I was concerned that the silver bags would not look right against the more blueish color of the bike. It looks good in the pictures. Is there a notable contrast depending on the light, or do they just seem to blend in? From some angles my bike looks silver, from others it looks blue, and pictures don't always capture the color match as well.

Here's the link. Only $115. Plus $29 for mounting brackets.  Shipping varies.

The color actually matches the bike really well.  The bags are not as metallic as the bike but overall the match is spot on.
By the way, my bike sleeps inside the garage!   :P

Yes the bags are a drop down style door, and yes i'm using the lights as turn signals, thanks for the tip on the trailer converter, I will have to look into that.

They look great!
How many bolts hold each bag? I see the two that go in the rail, are there one or two additional on each bracket to hold the bag? If there is just one, does the bag "swivel" at all? The instructions just show one bolt on each bracket.
Nice work! Gorgeous bike too.

Next you need to buy the Mutazu trunk bag, line it with some kind of padded material, cut a hole in the top and put your dog in there.

I saw a guy in Titusville with a Triumph Bonneville  who hauled his miniature pincher around in one. The dog loved it. Ten times better than a dog sticking his head out the window!!!

Thanks!  The brackets come with three holes to bolt the bags to them but I only used two of the holes and had the rest cut off because they were too long, so I used two holes on each side of each bag.  I do finde them to vibrate a bit but not too much.  Overall, for the price I like the final outcome.

anyone know how the ABS hardbags hold upwith the thumping? especially in cold weather?

Title: Re: New Saddlebags
Post by Paladin. on 10/01/08 at 10:15:55

My ABS Leatherlyke bags are just shy of four years old and are still in near new condition.  I ride all year around, but avoid riding when it is near deathly cold.

So.Cal.:

Cold: below 65 degrees
Very Cold:  Below 55 degrees
Extremely Cold:  Below 45 degrees
Deathly Cold:  Below 35 degrees

Hey Paladin:

How about -20 below. Up here in the Great White North we swap out 2 wheels for 4 wheels and chase snow snakes.

The brackets look like simple flat bar that has been bent to the proper shape with holes drilled. I wonder if they might be able to be fashioned by a DIYer and save some money.

Title: Re: New Saddlebags
Post by EssForty on 10/02/08 at 03:30:56

Absolutely. You could pick up the flat stock and attaching hardware at just about any hardware store. Looks like an easy bending job. I'd guess about $5-6 in materials and less than 30 minutes of DIY time and you'd have a solid custom fit.

I just installed the same bags on my bike....did you have issues with the turn signals blinking fast like there was a bulb out? I know the LED's don't draw enough current for the flasher, and was considering some solutions. Before i did anything I wanted to see what you did.
Thanks.

I added a LED equalizer to correct the flash, u can get from autoparts.  Post pics so we can see your ride.

I have the same bags and I thought the LED's were too dim to be seen during the day. Whenever I was riding in a group, the other riders kept asking me why I never use my turn signals. So I got a set of regular turn signals and mounted them on the hard bags. Here's a picture.....p.s I wired the LED's to the brakelight just for the heck of it.

Hi, I know this is an old post but I'm really interested in these bags. What specific hardware did you purchase with the bags to install? Was the install very difficult?
Thank you. Claire

Welcome to the forum.....as you spend more time here you will learn how the forum works.

The person that posted this is an "ex member"....so you will not get a response from him as he will not see your question.

In the first post the bags were listed as Matuza, and in the 11th post a link was provided to where the bags came from.  In later posts he explains about the brackets he used, how many bolts, etc.

Also, I have Mutazu bags (pics below) and wanted to forewarn you.  These bags are inexpensive for a good reason.  They are cheaply made ABS plastic; not fiberglass or other more durable material.
If you do some internet searching about any Mutazu bags, you'll find most folks have reinforced them in some way.
It's a shame because I would be willing to pay more for better quality but didn't find anything between these and very expensive bags that were hard and easily lockable.  Plus, these are a perfect size for our bikes.
Also, I've read many posts online about the lights that come with any of the Mutazu bags not being nearly bright enough.

Here's a link to the GA's that I have:  http://www.mutazu.com/products.php?cat_id=7&menu=Hard%20Saddlebags&product_id=544&s=prod.php
