Title: New Guy Here With A Few Questions
Post by dustin on 09/21/08 at 12:10:18

Hi all, just a few questions about a 96 savage 650. Did  search on removing the gas tank but the thread is "broken". Just wondering what the procedure  is to remove the tank in order to change the plug? Also is there anything else I should do while the tank is off. The bike has 26k miles. Thanks in advance for any help. Dustin

while staddling the seat lift up to the left the petcock will probally scratch the frame..
disconnect the speedo cable from the tranny dont lose the rubber o ring!!
EASIER TO DISCONNECT FUEL AND VAC LINES FROM CARB THAN PETCOCK..CHECK BOTH FOR CRACKS REPLACE AS NECESSARY..
the elect connector can be a pain (under speed O)....
if all you are doing is the plug  get a helper to hold tank up out of the way and you wont have to disconnet anything..
do search for "trap door method"  will save pullin tank for future plug removals...
hope this helps..
BTW WELCOME to the site...T.C. ;)

Do you know the maintenance history?

@26k, and it's a new 2 you bike, I'd recomend this...

once you've done this, you'll know how well the PO has taken care of the bike.
