Post by savagesteve on 09/19/08 at 01:18:54 gday my names steve from the gold coast australia Ive just bought a 1986 savage that was imported from japan last month. only im not convinced its a 1986 model as it is a 5 speed and 5 position adjustable shockies, which i read on here were 4 position on 86 models is there any way to confirm the year model from the chassis number? it doesnt have the usa 17 digit vin number.

Post by T Mack 1 on 09/19/08 at 05:15:26 GDay Steve,     Since the engines are interchangeable across all years,  there is a possibility that you have a replacement engine.   The 5 speed has a better starter gear setup. There should ba a sticker on the frame neck that has year of manufacture.  My 2001 says "12/00"
