Title: newbie with stupid question
Post by 03svrider on 09/15/08 at 13:42:55

i plan on putting a jc whitney "shorty seamless megaphone" muffler on my dad's 05 s40 and i am totally in the dark about rejetting the carb. i have never tried to tackle the carbs on any bike except my 81 gs450 and all i had to do was change the main in that bike's 2 carbs. i have all the tools i'll need and the shop manual. i lread through it and know i can DO the job but i don't want to do it over and over again to get a good result. luckily my sv650 is fuel injected! i just don't want to go trial and error all day when someone here could give a good nudge in the right direction.

I would try 2 jets sizes up on main and 1 up on pilot

No question is a stupid question. You will learn tons of stuff on here by asking. I went from knowing very little about my bike a year ago, to doing all my own wrenching. These folks are better than any manual ever printed.

+1 to that. This forum is a lifesaver. Much, much better than any manual. Money saver too. You'll get to get away from the stealerships and save a bundle doing your own wrenching.

Buy Lancer's jet kit for about $20. You get 3 different mains to play with and 55 pilot. I bought the JC Whitney fishtail, stock intake. I started with the 152 main and just kept it there. Runs good.

Ok, i have a ? about that. I bought lancers kit (thanks lancer) and i had stripped my old pilot, so i put lancers in. I have  a k&N filter with 152.5 main, and 2washers on needle. The pilot jet isnt too big is it? ill just have my air/fuel screw barely turned out right? Ive followed lancers easy carb instructions, its just im new to MC's and want to make sure im on the right track. I could barely tell a diffrence on listening as i screwed in-out, and im currently checking the plug to see if its black or not.
