Title: cleaning petcork Post by oksavage on 08/22/08 at 19:38:56 I am experiencing some intermittent stalling, choppy idle type trouble. My bike had been sitting for 5 years. I drained the carb, tank, did the oil all that but didn't clean the petcork. Anyway, I took it off and pulled it apart. As I sprayed some carb cleaner into the vacuum port/hole it spewed black out of the little plastic disc embedded in it. Why???? |
Title: Re: cleaning petcork Post by verslagen1 on 08/22/08 at 21:59:02 There really isn't much flow thru that port. what comes out goes back in unless there's a leak. And you don't want that. So dirt collects. I think that might be a screen to small animals out. Put a new hose on, but I don't think this is your trouble. Probably need to clean the carb. Check the screen on the float valve seat. |

Title: Re: cleaning petcork Post by T Mack 1 on 08/23/08 at 14:27:57 Aaaaaaaa .... some carb cleaners will disolve rubber & paint...... not all, but some... Read the warning on the can. If it warns about rubber then you may have shortened the life of the diaphram..... |
Title: Re: cleaning petcork Post by oksavage on 08/23/08 at 19:13:29 uh oh, i had it completely apart to clean. The piece I am referring to is the little plastic disc with 3 tiny holes that sits on the vac line side of the valve. I will definitely check my cleaner can. thanks |
Title: Re: cleaning petcork Post by Digger on 08/23/08 at 20:35:32 OK, If that doesn't fix your problem, I'd take the carb apart, removing all rubber and plastic parts, and dip-clean it. Carefully, though, those dip-cleaners are nasty stuff! IHTH! |
