Title: My new baby! Post by Chris has a Savage on 08/22/08 at 11:18:01 I'm an infant in motorcycle years, not even close to crawling even, but I got my first bike! My dad had recently bought an S40, his first bike in nearly 20 years, and it inspired my brother an I to get some too. My brother came as some POS 80's bike that cost him about $2300 for a $1200 bike within weeks. On my end, my dad plucked an '01 Savage up for me the other day. Saddle bags and windshield included for $2100. The head gasket is slightly leaky, and I'll do that after a test ride. However, I can't even ride it until September 6th! Why? I promised my weekends to friends/girlfriend until then. >:( (Elaboration: I go to school in Flint, Michigan. My bike is in Dayton, Ohio! Weekends are all I've got!) Pictures to come if anyone cares, but I am so darn excited! ;D |

Title: Re: My new baby! Post by Chris has a Savage on 08/22/08 at 11:31:19 Yeah I saw that. For now I was taking my dad's word for it but I'll have to take a look in... more than 2 weeks! The wait is destroying me! Also, I sent the info to him as well to check. So I'll find out soon enough. :) |

Title: Re: My new baby! Post by Dj12midnit on 08/22/08 at 21:56:46 I think that bike leans the wrong way send it to me and Ill fix it for you. Might take a year or two. Hey the wife has her license I figure it is worth a try. |
Title: Re: My new baby! Post by Chris has a Savage on 08/23/08 at 08:50:21 I think I'm gonna risk it with the lean as is. ;) This is torture though. I must have it next weekend! (Insert cursing and/or yelling here) |
Title: Re: My new baby! Post by Chris has a Savage on 08/26/08 at 09:38:54 So, I made a several hundred mile trek home yesterday and back to school today just to ride it. SO worth it even though I only had an hour of daylight, my car's tire got annihilated by a pothole, and the fact that I'm now driving my dad's truck while my car is in the shop for a service engine light (and tire). I still feel like a schoolgirl with a crush and I'm acting like one. I can't wait to ride it again! (If I keep up like I am, my girlfriend is going to be jealous!) ;D Wow, looking back, that trip was crappy. However, the ends were well worth the means! (Aside from that dang tire bill!) |
Title: Re: My new baby! Post by cowspotter on 08/26/08 at 10:54:19 Nice bike. Just 1 problem. The pipes are blue/yellow enough. :) |
Title: Re: My new baby! Post by Chris has a Savage on 08/26/08 at 11:15:24 That was mostly lighting. It's slightly yellow right up at the engine, but otherwise it's all still lookin good. The muffler is whistling though. I think it's done. Also, the oil leak was that bolt issue. (Woo!) It's still unresolved and now I still have to wait for another 10 days to fix that and ride it again... :'( |

Whistling is normal. Sort of sounds like an old VW bug just over idle.... |
Title: Re: My new baby! Post by Chris has a Savage on 08/26/08 at 11:58:24 My dad's S40 whistles slightly but mine is up there, sometimes up with the engine itself in regular riding. Is that still normal? |

Until I switched to a Dyna take-off, I could hear the whistle thru the helmet at speed occasionally. Is it normal?????.... are you sure it's the muffler??? With a helmet on, it's hard to zreo in on what is making the noise. But... I think it's fairly normal...... |
Title: Re: My new baby! Post by Chris has a Savage on 08/26/08 at 12:35:39 I'm pretty sure, but I don't have it here to double check. Oh well, I suppose if it's not posing a problem I shouldn't worry about it. |
