Title: Pro Tac Driver's backrest
Post by WebsterMark on 08/18/08 at 09:26:48

Has anyone installed a Pro-Tac Driver's backrest on an S40?

There was one on my bike when I bought it.  I don't have it on there now but it was comfy for longer rides.

Do you still have it, and do you want to sell it? PM me if you do.

The backrest is sitting in the garage.  I am not sure that it is a Pro Tac model though.  I can take a look to see if I can identify who made it. It looks like the ones on that website with longer tube on the bottom.

Send me an email address and I can email you a photo of it. The bar bends around at the bottom and is pretty long for forward and rear adjusments.

I bought one on Ebay, but have not received it yet.  I can let you know how it goes when I do get it.

I did get a price quote ($125 plus s/h) from Pro Tac for a new one.

I was thinking about making my own by shaping flat steel and having it chromed after it has the correct shape.

Oh oh. :-?

Well, at least the retail price for a new one isn't outrageous.  But still...sorry.   :-/

No Problems.

My friend has one on his Honda 750 and loves it.   Me,  I rode his Honda and am not so sure.  That's why I didn't set my price too high.

Let us know how it rides......

Honestly, I plan to use it more as a security blanket than for comfort.  I just don't like the idea of nothing behind me when I ride.  Some of those potholes can toss you back a bit.  I will let you know how it goes.

Yea, I'm interested in how the backrest rides and feels as well. I'm trying not to do to much to my new 2007 S40 as I just started up again this summer after 20 years away from riding. I put on a Sigma 800 bike speedometer which was an outstanding addition. Easy to  install, gives excellent information as far as miles run, speed, max speed and the wires to the front wheel are pretty much hidden from view. I have a tank bag that I ended up moving to the rear of the seat and it looks much better. I didn't like the way it looked on the tank. I attached it to the seat strap.  If I had a driver's back rest, I could move the 'tank' bag back to the tank, attach a larger bag behind the back rest and would have enough storage to be gone a few days.
