Title: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by dasch on 08/13/08 at 09:54:10 Has anybody ever removed those? And how? Do they screw out or you force-pull them out? Any help appreciated. dasch |
Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by T Mack 1 on 08/13/08 at 10:15:14 They should be pressed in. Std practice in MC carb's. Removing them has a tendency to make them loose when you try to stick them back in. But.... there is always JB weld.. |
Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by dasch on 08/13/08 at 10:23:41 Sounds logical. Just like all other bikes, but has anybody here ever actually removed one? I might end up with a lot of pulling in case one is actually screwed in for any reason jap engineers saw fit ;) |
Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by T Mack 1 on 08/13/08 at 10:26:32 I guess the question should be asked.... Why are you doing this??? |
Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by dasch on 08/13/08 at 10:48:59 :-) You are right, it should. I am planning some modifications this winter. One of them is replacing (almost) all rubber hoses with 6mm and 8mm copper leads. This includes a mini banjo fitting for fuel inlet and screw-on brass/copper fittings for others (vacuum and 2x vent). Like old tractors and steam machines had. Copper, brass, black paint and shiny steel is the pattern. To do that, I need to yank the ols ones and buy (or machine) ones I want. It's just an idea, but I need the know-how before it turns into a plan. I am rethinking the fuel inlet now because of vibrations... as I said - just an idea. Help is still appreciated. |
Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by verslagen1 on 08/13/08 at 10:54:02 Might I suggest steel braided flex lines. |
Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by dasch on 08/13/08 at 11:53:03 Considered. I visually like copper much better. |
Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/13/08 at 14:18:52 If copper just trips your trigger, consider running a loop or coil in it, to give it a place to expand/contract & vibrate. |
Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by dasch on 08/13/08 at 18:43:13 Yes. Like this guy did: http://www.amdchampionship.com/content.php?page=registry§ion=viewbike&event=2008euro&bikenumber=103 That's a savage also. Unbelievable... Notice the small scooter rotor/calliper on the drive pulley? I could also leave fittings as they are and use a short section on rubber hose as a flange for the copper piece... I will see. |

Title: Re: carburetor brass hose fittings Post by dasch on 08/13/08 at 23:49:18 You are so welcome. I found so much good stuff on this forum, it was about time to make up ;) Yeah, whoever is in the chop/bob/mod business - do browse through that whole site www.amdchampionship.com there's a bunch of ideas there. Take time and check out the one called Nautilus in 2008! Now, that's sick! Specially the side stand, hahaha. |
