Title: question about the weather
Post by oksavage on 08/10/08 at 14:25:09

here in Oklahoma we've been having 104+ degree days with little humidity.  i've been able to go out and start up my 86 savage with no choke and ride (evenings only, I got tired of cooking my right foot)  Earlier I had a problem with it not wanting to idle when warmed up (stock pilot jet) but this problem hadn't been occurring.  However, a chance for rain today, lower temps and higher humidity.  The bike died on my way home from church, just died as I came to a stop sign.  Finally got it restarted with full throttle and some backfires.  got home and it idled fine in the driveway.  Did this sudden change in weather affect the bike? heavier air  :) or something? because my pilot jet problems had gone away and now it seems like they might have returned?

hot and humid will make you run rich and richer, but that should not make you unable to idle unless you're way too low on the idle.  You can try increasing the idle rpm's, if that don't work, check for gas in the vac line.  You may have a leak there.  You can also check that you're gas cap vent is not clogged.

I would die too in that heat.

Upper 50's today with rain here on Lake Huron.

That must be nice. Of course in 6 months it'll be upper 50's here, and you'll be 50 below (well, it'll probably feel like it anyway). Wish we could just form a fair weather commune. Just travel to where the weather was most agreeable to ride. Wouldn't that be nice?
