Title: Savage vs. S40 Sissybar Rails
Post by SimonTuffGuy on 08/07/08 at 11:32:05

Alright... I know there has been a lot of debate in the past few weeks about the differences between the Savage sissybar rails, the S40 sissybar rails, and the S40 non-sissybar rails...

So - I'm hoping this thread will be able to provide all of the information needed to sort out the differences between the 3.

I had an original set of non-sissybar rails on my S40 when I purchased it. I swapped them with another member for a set of that mounts the sissybar from a Savage... And my latest purchase was a set for the S40.

Since I no longer have the original rails... I'll try to provide pictures from when I purchased the S40 and removed the original rails (or what I can find online here) and then compare the sissybar versions between Savage and S40.

However, I'm currently at work, so I'm limited to what I can do. From my initial observations... The sissybar rails look identical from Savage to S40. The only difference is that the pad has changed (textured front) and the emblem decal that fits on the back to cover the pad screws.

More information will be posted later this evening. :)

Back shot of the S40 vs Savage sissybar rails. The only difference (aside from surface rust) is that the S40 rails have a neat little clip that holds the turn signal wire in place.

Back rests are the same as well, except for the pad and the emblem on the back.

All 3 sets of rails utilize the front 3 holes on the fender.

The S40 non-sissybar rails also have a little nipple welded in the rear that goes into the little hole in the rear of the fender (there is a grommet in there to hodl it in place).

The sissybar rails have a bolt hole that lines up with that hole when the grommet is removed, but I didn't have a bolt to go in there?

It looks like the sissybar could be moved up (higher) and then a longer bolt to go on the bottom... But I'm just not sure how that'd work.

At any rate... I hope this helps clarify some of the questions that have been brought up with the rail swap.

Nice wirte up SimonTG.... this is something that could go in the Tech Ref section..... if it weren't for the Bike-Pic hosting which will have them disappear in a few months...

Hmmm... I didn't know that was the case? Well then, I guess I'll move them to my person host where they'll stay as long as my website is up... :) I'll have to do it once my webhost gets me all switched over sometime this week though.
