Title: Gas overfill?
Post by itschnobigdeal on 08/03/08 at 09:13:29

So the last two times I've filled up my bike, I've came out after paying to see my bike leaking gas like crazy. Right out of the bottom of the bike. I looked around the carb, etc, and found no leaking there. Both times I've filled it oh about an inch down (maybe less) from the cap..
Both times other people have seen it and made comments and I've been embarassed. After it leaks out a bunch of gas it stops and it's fine. Runs fine, nothing seems wrong in that regard. Am O overfilling it? Seems like there must be a drain when it's too full...

well, it would help to know where the leak is coming out

Shouldn't fill it up into the neck.Especially if it's hot.

Park in sun, pull gas cap, look down in tank, note silver metal sleeve going down, when gas reaches bottom of sleeve, stop, else it will overflow. Suzuki owners manual.

I know everybody will think I am nuts, but the McGoofy (McCuff for those not following along in your hymnals) is the perfect solution for that.  ::)  That is exactly where it stops.  Its like pure magic in a yellow rubber gadget I tell ya!  :D

I've seen something similar, after I fill it up in our hot Texas sun, even if I fill it to just the end of the sleeve, it'll boil up and start to leak out...

Solution-Fill up more often :-?
I've just come back from running out of gas today, and I'm not liking my own solution for the boil over.  (Got lucky Walmart was less than a mile away)
Anyone got a better solution?

We have something most Hogly Ferguson riders don't, a keyed gas cap and RESERVE.  ;D

What a great catch phrase for a commercial. You should license that and sell it to the McGoofy people. A little extra $$ on the side!
