Title: Paranoid in Portland Post by mick on 08/02/08 at 23:42:55 Ok guys I keep reading all these threads on the timing chain,I have 13,000 on my 02, I will be making a long trip soon (3000 miles) I don't have any strange noises,my bike runs better than it's ever run,it starts easy, runs great, fast enough to blow most cages at the light, and it looks great. I change the oil every 500 miles (and filter) iridium spark plug,Jardene muffler,150 main,K&N filter, new tires. I'm asking should I change the timing chain tentioner and the timing chain,or just the tentioner,or leave them both alone? Like the old adage"if it ain't broke, don't fix it" or ????? |

Here's another... you can pay me now or you can pay someone else later, cause I don't do engine rebuilds. If you haven't looked at it, how do you know it ain't broke? http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1191167029 |
Title: Re: Paranoid in Portland Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/03/08 at 01:52:43 At 15,000 my tensioner was at "Max Allowable" extension. The cam chain, however, had some miles left according to the measurement. Someone has a graph/chart/ spreadsheet, hekkifino what its called, that shows diferent bikes mileage & the condition of the chain, tensioner, all that. I still have the chain & will run it one day, but its time to have a look in there. |
