Title: S40 seat fit on 96 savage?
Post by Jimworx on 08/02/08 at 06:33:17

I was just wondering. Does a newer S40 seat fit on a 96 savage?

According to another website, the S40 seat fits on the Savage without any significant mod, just drilling a hole in the fender for the rear bolt.  I have ordered an S40 gel seat and will let you know how it turns out.

I mounted an S40 gel seat on my '87 Savage.  The S40 seat does not have the exact same curve as the Savage fender lines so I raised the front mounting bracket like a lot of people do.  The sides bolt into the same frame tabs that the Savage seat uses.

After doing this, the rear seat was still a little high.  There is plenty of flex in the seat to bring it down on the fender, so I drilled a hole for the rear seat tab and used a 1/4"X3/4" hex bolt to fasten the seat to the rear fender.

On my very first ride, the hex bolt vibrated right off.  I have put on another bolt and cranked it down a little tighter.  Hopefully, it will stay on this time.  If not, I may need to go with a longer bolt and use a locking washer.  I think there is plenty of clearance to do that.

Are they more comfortable?  :)

I like the S40 gel seat, but my stock seat had been shaved down by the previous owner so it didn't have much padding.
