Title: $2 'chrome' trim
Post by bugsville on 07/26/08 at 11:34:47

I was over at autozone getting some loc-tite (installed sportster muffler today) and picked up some chrome/plastic car door trim and installed it on the ridge under the gas tank - that ridge always looked like it should be trimmed out to me - not bad for $2! I didn't have the tank off or I could have gone all the way around probably with the 2 pieces.

I like it. I"ve seen the ones on ebay and have been tempted to order it but I'm glad I waited.

Looks great.

That ridge on the tank seems to be one of the first places that paint starts to flake on a Savage so covering it may also help to prevent it happening, or at least cover it up for a while if it's already started!

I just did mine the other day with some truck door edging from Autozone. Cost me about $5 (rats!). This edging is black. It's not super wide like some but still looks good, nice finished look around tank. Highly recommended for those looking for something less shiny. I may even try it around the chrome tool box, but may be a little too thick for that.

You set that thing in there with a crane? The rubber on the front tire isnt dusty. I see some on the rear, but not much. Engine looks new, back of the license plate, new. Very nice looking. Looks like the vac line is the same color as the bike..how?

It looks to me like you would only have to remove the front seat to get the trim fitted all the way round the tank.

good point, it was the front I had a hard time getting around, so I just trimmed it evenly on each side.

This pic was taken right after a ride through a real dusting of a rain storm so it got a little misty wash which is why it looks so clean i would figure. As for the vacuum line, it is oversprayed from when the guy painted the tank. Up close it is a little flaky.
