Title: Speedo light
Post by 88pagan on 07/24/08 at 01:21:21

Maybe this is a stupid question but are our Savages really missing a backlight in the speedo?? or is mine just out. If there isn't one hiding in there, has anyone figured out a mod before I start tinkering with mine?

It does have a light...so yours must be out.  Simple fix...drain tank, remove seat, remove tank, turn upside-down...look for bulb hold in center bottom of speedo assembly, pullsaid bulb out, change bulb, reverse process. :)

Cool thanks. Any chance anyone knows the bulb so I can pick it up on the way home from work today? Would like to only have to take the bike apart once. thanks

Consider replacing it with an LED.

This is a good source:
www.superbrightleds.com

I used them to replace all the panel lights on my TW-200, including the high-beam indicator lamp which is notorious for burning out on that bike. So far the led replacement is hanging in there.

Cool thanks for the input. Just pulled the tank and it does say 1.7w... going to grab some bulbs tomorrow. Another question though, anyone know what that indicator is for to the right of the neutral light?

On mine, it's the turn signal indicator.

Well mine's a 96 and speedo cluster has up top --turn single, brights, turn single. And on the bottom is green neutral on bottom left and something that never lights up on the bottom right.

Nevermind. **note to self** think before you write. I just went out and looked again and it's a dead indicator sooo..now I've just got to think of a reason to put a light there. Maybe there's something here in the forums

If you absolutely HAVE to put something there, perhaps you should hook it up to the sidestand so that you can tell when the stand is down.   ;)

I usally look down after I try to start it and it won't start, actually I look around to see if anybody saw my dumb move. :-[

I think the unused indicator was indeed a warning light for the sidestand on the models from about '86 to '88. Those would be the ones with the four-speed transmissions. When they came back in '95 or '96  a warning light wasn't enough to keep Suzuki's corporate attorneys happy.
