Title: Question after removing fuel tank
Post by troglobil on 07/22/08 at 17:02:25

I removed my fuel tank for the first time,to look at the plug. After putting it back on, the tank seems to have a lot of play in in. I don't recall it being this way before.

The rubber doughnut things it pushes onto are on and it is seated on them.
The two bolts are tightened down completely.

Is this normal? Or should it still be solid. It rocks side to side so that the edges go up and own 1/2 to 3/4inches.

Or is my short term memory gone and it did this all along?

Did you rock it side to side before you took it off?  You might be feeling something that was there before but you never tried.  Make sure your front rubber mount pads are on.  Mine will move but it is not excessive.  It sounds like one of the front mount pads might not be where it should be.

Paranoia is normal and healthy.  We are here to assure you that you never noticed that the tank will rock that far before.  Got me too.

Seems to me that if a front doughnut wasn't there the tank would clunk up and down, not just rock.

Memory is the second thing to go.
