Title: Savage Vibrates at 60 MPH
Post by Wagslick on 07/22/08 at 15:19:45

When I'm riding my Savage anywhere from 0-55MPH the bike rides smooth as butter but once I get around 60 MPH the bike vibrates quite a bit. I can feel the vibration all throughout the bike (seat, handlebars, pegs). It's not a terrible vibration but it's enough to make me want to stay under 60. The bike has never been dropped. I'm wondering if the the vibration is caused by an unbalanced tire or just that one piston moving back and forth quite a bit. Anyone have any ideas?

Vibrations at 60+ is normal. It is a Thumper after all  ;)

Take it up to 65 or 70mph then pull in the clutch...does the vibration go away?

comes with the territory. You'll find ranges in each gear where the bike is excpetionally smooth but before or after that range its gets shaky. At 60it vibrates quite a bit. Pick it up to 65-70 and you'll see it smooth out some but like yonuhadisi said...its a thumper. You just got one great big piston shooting up and down so its gunna vibrate.

new here- first post-  only had my savage for a month or so.  ride it alot on the highway and yea the first ime was a bit odd but now i can cruise at about 71 and all is good- will go faster of course but just not wanting cruise more than that.  I do ask- since riding more on the highway at the higher speeds the valves are really ticking. I did have an oil leak wehre the speedometer cable goes in and was afraid i ran it for a while with little oil.

Took it in for it to be checked out they adjusted valves, changed oil and a few other htings- ran great for a few days than once on the highway for a long ride it went right back to the loud ticking- what should I do or be worried about.  Or is it just the way it is?  The ticking is loud all the time now no matter what speed even at idol- not wehn first started up and cool but once it warms up.

If I've been off the bike for any length of time, and particularly if I've been riding my other bike, I have to do that just once to reassure myself that what I feel is normal.  ;D

Perfectly normal.  Just try it at 65.  When you look in the mirrors, they're nothing but a useless blur!

The vibration is half the charm of the bike.  Suzuki did a good job dampening it up to highway cruising speeds.  It's all part of the fun of owning a thumper.

mine vibrates way less than my buddies 650 v-star, and 883 sportster at any speed.  Not bad for a thumper.

Yeah.  If you really want a 'magic fingers' kind of ride, jump on a Sporty 883.  Jeesh.  I thought my fillings were going to fall out....

Sweet. That makes me feel a bit better. After all, I'm kinda new at this whole motorcycle thing.

Here's a question. Do the two cylinder bikes have similar vibrations?

about 60 is when it vibes the most, take it to 70/75 and the vibes will be sweeter   ;D

I've read a lot of people dis the mirrors for vibrating, but I've been blessed because mine are still usefull up to 75mph. I see everything behind me. Oh, and the vibes are normal. Part of the Savage experience. :)
