I laid my bike down while it was standing still.

2007 Suzuki S40

The chrome nut just below the oil filter and back of the right foot peg is crushed. I would say half of it is there.

I get bad vibration from the right peg when I get to 60 mph. Once I get to 65-70 it goes away.

Do you guys think if I replace the nut, it would resolve the issue?

It is tight, so it being loose isn't the issue.

Hmmm... I would not think that scuffing the top of a nut would cause the vibration, so...

That bolt runs clear through to the other side. Nothing got knocked out of kilter did it? Didn't break the frame or move the engine out of whack? Is the heat shield bent over and rattling against the header pipe? Looks like the peg itself took some abuse, from the scuff on the end. Is it still tightly attached?

That nuts not crushed. Its ground off from cornering. Mine are a disaster. You are just starting to get some rubber off the peg end, mine is ground nearly 1/3rd off, maybe more. Tighten all those Thru Bolts.

Take a very close look at your handlebars too. A drop that has enough impact to mar the nuts has enough force to tweak the bars a bit.

That's not a crack under the footpeg, is it? Check around, I doubt if the bolt is the problem, but why not replace it anyway?

I had to see if that was a crack. Thank god it was just residue.

I am glad someone else is feeling it. I know I noticed it more after the bike fell.. but maybe I am just worrying to much.

Want to say thanks for the replies. This is a great forum. Please never let it go away. :)

I noticed someone said check the valves. Is this a major project?

I have a repair manual, so I will look it up tonight.

My bike is 3 months old, and has a little over 7100 miles. May seem like a lot, but I commute 100 miles a day. Thats why I bought it, to save gas. The dealer said it would be good for that commute, so I believed him.

So far I have changed the oil 6 times, and adjusted the belt a while back. Am planning a plug change and air filter change this weekend. Oh yea, will change the oil as well. :P

But the valve thing kinda scares me. As does removing the spacer to stop backfiring, and the speedo vibration.

I sweated great drops of blood just thinking about doing the valve check. When I finally worked up the gumption, there was nothing to it. Don't let it worry you. Just round up a ratchet, a wrench, and a screwdriver and dive in. Oh, and some feeler guages.

IMO, the how-to writeup in the tech section outclasses the repair manual. It is very, very helpful.

Valves are no big deal. Vroom1776 did an excellent write up (with pictures!) in the tech section, page 6. You will need some offset wrenches (trust me), and a tool for getting to that timing inspection plug. Follow his instructions, and it's a snap. Allow yourself about four hours work time. You'll need it your first time in. After that it will get faster and faster.

That plug does not hold the engine together, reinstall it lightly. A few have seized theirs up. Maybe some antiseize in the threads would be a good idea, I do it & have no problems.

I cant imagine just dropping the bike would cause any vibration problems. I would imagine that you are just sensitized to it now.

How are your tires? I had more vibration near the end of my old ones, I think because of some weird cupping on the front.

You are probably right. The tires are at about 26 psi, I am going to put them up to 28 like the book says.
