Title: Factory Sticker
Post by suzukigrl on 07/21/08 at 18:33:39

Ok I have had my bike almost 3 months and I am tired of looking at the dumb factory sticker on my gas tank. Anyone know of a good way to get it off without damaging the paint?

Let it sit in the sun and get real hot then you can slowly peel it off.

Hair dryer... Heat it up a bit and start peeling in a corner. If you start to see the clear pulling without the rest of the sticker, then stop and try another corner.

If there's anything left... Use some Goo Gone on it and it'll come off.

I removed most of the decals from my bike, the Suzuki behind the tail light, the S40 stickers on the side panels, the warning label on the belt guard, etc...

Good luck!

DON'T use a razor blade and DON'T ask me how I know this.

Yup, all you need is a hair dryer, something soft to scrape with (I used an old credit card) and some time.  The main decal on the tank is under the clear coat, but I still got mine off with the same tools.  A little buffing and you'll never know it was there.

What do you mean by "main decal"? None of mine were under the clear on my 07...

Took ALL of the warning lables, tire pressure and tune-up spec labels off of my S40 ... used the hair dryer, goo gone, thumbnail method ... took awhile and I have no thumbnails left, but them dam stickers is gone! 8-) ;D

The Big sticker on the sides of the gas tank.  When I took those off, it left a noticeable ridge in the clear coat.  A super fine buffing pad, some wax, and a little elbow grease and it's gone.

Those of us with the S40/Boulevard logo got lucky not having that sticker on the side of our tanks.   :-*

My '95 has the tank decals under the clearcoat, I'd have to strip and repaint the tank in order to get rid of them, so I just put different decals over them. The side cover "Savage" decals were under at least one coat of clear, but I was able to remove them. I still need to sand and buff to remove the leftover imprint, though.

I just added this Super "S" sticker after taking off the Suzuki logo.

I was lucky my Savage had a small dent in it when I boought it at the dealership, they said you won't a new tank or credit, I took the tank and it didn't have any sticker when it finally came in

suzukigrl,
Add a little baby oil and some time and that sticker will float right off.

This thread inspired me to finally take the sticker off of my tank. It's been on for 3 years and the previous owners never bothered with taking it off..
*Tip* Carb Cleaner takes the glue leftovers off the tank like wiping your hand across a steamed up bathroom mirror!

After a quickie wax the tank looks gorgeous!
