Title: Rear turn signal relocation and bag supports
Post by kramynot2000 on 07/09/08 at 19:28:44

Hi all,

I was taking pix of the fender rails off my S40 and thought I'd post some pix of my cheap saddlebag setup.  I moved my rear turnsignals back to the license plate frame and bent my own bag supports so this was very cheap.  The bags I had sitting around from my ol' sportbike days.  I originally thought I'd replace them with leatherbags one day but I have a matching magnetic tankbag and the look is starting to grow on me so who knows.

I've never posted pix before so I'm hoping this works.

Attached is a side view of the bike with bags on.  The bags are back far enough that my wife can ride on the back without any footpeg interference.

Also attached is a pic of my rear turn signal setup.  Basically I took a 1/2 PVC pipe, cut it down and drilled some holes in it and painted it black.  To mount the turn signals I drilled a hole in the bottom of the pipe for the turn signal screw and then a bigger hole for the wiring to come out.  The wiring was long enough so I didn't have to do any rewiring.  Only issue was that the stock screw that holds the turnsignal on was too long and was pinching the wiring when screwed tightly.  (I can't tell you how many hours it took to figure out why my signals were operating intermittantly!)  So I just went to home depot and got shorter screws.

Finally there's a pic of my saddlebag support that I bent based on a posting here.  I used 1/4" wire from home depot.

Anyway, I've probably put a few hundred miles on with this set up and have had quite a bit in the bags without any problems.  I had the bags for a while so there was no additional cost there.  Cost for the PVC pipe to remount the turnsignals was a couple of bucks along with another couple of bucks for the wire used for the saddlebag supports.

I put my bike in the back of my truck when I go out camping with my trailer and with this setup its perfect for exploring the local area, zipping down to the local market to pick up supplies, etc.

Tony

Sorry folks, apparently I'm doing something wrong with uploading pix.  I'll have to see if I can find some instructions or something.

Tony - Go register an account over at bikepics.com, upload your pictures there, and then you'll be able to link them from there to here... :)

I like the other picture better, but I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to post a picture of a license plate on the site without asking the owner's permission first.  I was to lazy to ask.
