Title: Turn Signals
Post by Mattdw on 07/09/08 at 14:59:09

Hey all,

I'm having a VERY hard time locating turn signals that will work on my LS 650. I keep seeing posts saying they're not hard to find. Can anyone send me an actual link of a place that sells a set of 2 front (with 3rd wire for running lights)? Or a link to a set of 4 that has 2 running front, and normal rear? I would really like them to fit without any need for additional parts/mounts conversions.

I'm looking for something smaller than the OEM ones, look nice, and won't break the bank.

For some reason, those just don't look like they'll fit the front fork assembly without additional modifications. The OEM ones have a LONG stem ... Am I missing something?

Mattdw,

Pretty much any of the after market turn signals will work.  Look for a dual filament instead of a single filament for the "running lights".  But I don't think there is a "running light" hot wire to the turn lights on the savage. Or is there?  I just put a set of turn signals on the front and back.  Very easy.  Most come with internal grounding, no grounding wire.  If the signal doesn't work, the turn signal body is not touching metal on the bike that grounds it.  I ran a ground wire from signal body back to the original ground wire.

The lights I bought are like these from JC Whitney: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10111/s-10101/p-100000146216/mediaCode-ZX/appId-100000146216/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000146216

I don't know the exact number, but I believe to be DOT legal they have to be 18" or more apart, center of lens to center of lens. If they are too close together they become indistinguishable from the headlight or taillight, thus pretty worthless as a traffic signal.

Like it or not, there comes a point where safety needs to take precedence over style.

Most of them won't.  You'll have to get some turn signal mounts and mount them to your fork.

I just ordered and installed these on the rear, they had three wires, I used two and wrapped the third.  The wires were a bit short but I was able to splice them.  They flash a bit quicker than before but other wise ok

I ordered the same light from eBay and it has worked without a hitch. Hardest part was getting to pillion rails off. Lotta squeezing into that wee space 'tween rear tire and fender :-?
