Title: FireLizard progression
Post by YonuhAdisi on 07/05/08 at 13:32:53

At the moment I am bored and also trying to get up the gumption to get the dishes done. So to stall a little bit I decided to post a pictorial progression of the FireLizard to date. I will add photos as it continues to evolve.

A day after I bought it from the pawn shop. (those saddlebags were stolen from me)

Looking good.  Hard to believe with all the mods you are still on the stock seat!

Yeah I know, but until I can get the engine squared away, any more cosmetic/comfort mods will be on the back burner.

Thanks, if only I hadn't messed up the top of the tank when I tried to put gas in it.

Is it not clear coated? What do you mean messed up the top? Its a shame. Your bike is the one I have most anticipated seeing. I have been waiting forever to get a pic of it painted lol. You started the thread then had to disapear for a bit and then came back. I love the look of the bike. Are you running front brakes?

No, it is not clear coated, I didn't have any, however I was gonna get some the next payday after I painted it. I was pouring gas in it from a can from the high side, (should of done it from the low side) and I spilled it directly on the tank. When I tried to wipe it off this happened.

I've had people tell me that from a distance it looks like a snow capped mountain range.

The top of the tank isn't the only screw up though, just the most visible. Rear fender fell to the ground while I was painting and I'm afraid I didn't quite straighten up all the boogered up paint, however the side rails cover most of that mistake.

Lol. Painting is a female dog for sure. I am glad my ladies father wanted to do it. He caused some runs on the under side with the clear coat. He had to re-sand, repaint and re coat the bottom half. Any little fuzzies were covered up by the second clear coat and then patiently buffed out.

I forgot to answer your front brake question. Yes, it is a mini drum front break. My stock front wheel for the Savage would not fit between the girder forks because of the break rotor so I bought the mini drum front wheel. It gives it more of the old school chopper look I was going for anyway.

The break lever is an upside down mounted clutch lever with a rear brake cable for a Honda ATV. (Don't remember what model of ATV)

Hey Yonah!

When you installed the performance cam, the specs call for racing oil.  What oil do you use now?  You stated that it is basically a switch (I haven't checked stock versus upgrade valve specs, etc).  I am about to rip open both engines and compare parts and stuff.  Also, what cam chain are you using and have you noticed any wear or maintenance concerns?

I guess you can now play around with your techniques for airbrushing your tank!  :-?

Thanks,

Wolf  :D

I missed the part about it calling for racing oil, because I just use what I have always used Quakerstate 10w40 and have had no problems with it.
