Title: Help needed again or just confirmation
Post by mentaka on 07/01/08 at 14:09:46

Me again ! i know i only come to you guys with problems, typical woman. He he.Anyway the problem i was having before which appeared to right itself was that occassionally for no apparent reason my bike would start to lose power all of a sudden then pick up again if i opened her up abit more, then if i changed down not long after this happened then she would die completly and be a pain to start again unless she was put in reserve or PRI. everyone helpfully came back suggesting a fuel problem which i exhustivley checked out and couldnt find a problem. However she seemed to right herslf not long after quite happily but then out the blue for no apparent reason she would go through a phase of doing it again. Ive just taken her for a spin and low and behold she done it again. I think that the majority of the time she does it is in the rain (but not all the time) and lets face it rain is all we get in the Great british Isles, any ideas what this could be and how i can solve it? or can anyone tell me that they have the same problem and its a quirk of this bike. :o

I did try some some stuff that you had to put in with gas, apparently that went through carb etc to help but dont know if its the same stuff.

This is going to sound dumb... But there is gas in the tank, right?

Sounds like the petc0ck filter might be plugged, if it runs o.k. on prime and reserve it's definatlely in the petc0ck somewhere.

Sounds like freespirits problem, maybe even yonuh's.

Drain the gas out of the tank and carb (pour it into hubbies cage) and get fresh gas from a tank that's above the water table.

We have only just cleaned everything out from last time this happened. I gotta feelin its something to do with the rain. The bikes a german import, 1998, serviced regular, tuned? dont know when. Its gotta be water cause she will be fine for ages but if i get caught in shower she plays up and will do for days after then will suddenly right herself.

That's exactly what was happening to mine. I looked at the vacuum line like the guys said and lo and behold it was kinked badly. Looked even like there was a hole in it from where it was creased.

Changed it out and so far everything has been fine. We've only had one torrential down pour since I changed it so I can't say for certain but so far it's working adn the problem has not reoccurred.

It rained solid the first month I had the bike and still rode. I did feel like I was back living in Scotland...

What keeps coming to my mind is a pinhole leak in either the vacuum line or the petc0ck. Booger to search out. Good luck.
Ride safe,
Jay
