Title: fork gators - again
Post by Jay on 06/28/08 at 00:28:18

I was wondering if anyone had ever used these?

Code: 17232
Price:$16.16
Durable, machine washable neoprene guards protect fork seals from bugs, dirt, rocks, etc. Easy instalation with hook-and-loop fasteners.

Easy on, easy off, and looks like they would work with a forkbrace.
Thoughts anyone? Thanks.
Ride safe,
Jay

My eye doesnt see it with a forkbrace, maybe my eye needs recallibrated, it may be slightly inebriated.

a fork brace will fit flush with the top, so these won't have anything to secure to.

Pooh! I was hoping it  might just work. Got my mind made up to get a TKAT.
What options, if any, exist for fork gators with a fork brace.
Thanks,
Jay

You could trim the gaiter and just let it sit on top.  The top fits tightly so it doesn't go anywhere.  And gravity holds it in place just fine.  occasionaly you'll have to straighten it up.

That's what I did & it worked fine. I had the rubber fork gators on with a TKAT fork brace. Once in awhile one of the gaitors would be raised up an inch or two off the brace when it stuck to the fork. That quit happening after I sprayed a little Armorall up the inside of the boot.
I'm using those NOJ neoprene boots now on my current bike. I'll drop in a pic as soon as I get my Photobucket account straightened out.

babbalou,
Pics would be great! Glad to see somebody using those on a Savage. I'm seriously considering getting  pair for my bike.

verslagen1,
That's a good idea. Simple too. Gravity, it's everywhere, and it's free!

dropoutjohn,
That doesn't sound "kooky" to me. Try it and post pics. You might have a little cottage industry there. That is, until you run out of wetsuit. ;D

Thanks guys,
Jay

Well, I'd forgotten that I hadn't put on the fork brace yet for these pics that I took awhile back. I trimmed about an inch off the bottoms & just let them sit on the brace after the install. No more dried bugs cutting into the fork seals. Mainly though, I just liked the retro look of gaitors.

I'd take new pics but I no longer have the bike.

babbalu,
Thanks for the pic. Sweet ride. I like the look of the gators too. Hate that they ever stopped putting them on bikes. I look forward to having some soon. I DON"T look forward to putting them on. :)
Ride safe,
Jay
