Just got my Savage LS650 last week off ebay.  It is teal in color with 15000 miles and is a 2001.  Paid under 2500.  Runs sweet but really starts cutting out in the rain.  Backfires when wet.  Wants to stall.  But after it is dry it is perfect.  Any suggestions? :o  Will have pics by Monday.  Almost perfect conditions

No suggestions.  I'm new here myself.  Just wanted to congratulate you on your purchase!  I've bought a few cars off Ebay, got great deals.  :)

I'm no expert, but I'd check the wire and boot that goes to the spark plug.  Also, inspect your rubber hoses that are attached to the carb.  You are either getting water in the fuel or the spark plug is fouling out.  You are sending fuel out of the chamber and it is igniting in the exhaust, that's the cause of the increased backfire.  For some reason you aren't burning that fuel due to water.

Just had a smewhat similar situation.  Took the bike for a 300 mile ride and it started to idle rought and then would not start the next morning after an ingredible thunderstorm.  Low and behold the positive battery terminal screw was loose.  When tightened all was well.
May not be your problem but is easy to check off the list.
