Title: OIL FLUSH
Post by tercel29 on 06/20/08 at 13:13:44

I just bought a 96' Savage and its been mostly sitting for the last 2 years and I'm changing the oil, but i was thinking of using a little engine flush. like seafoam or something to clean out the sludge. but I want to make sure it won't hurt anything, like the clutches. any advice would be great!
thanks

Are you posting an informative DIY article for which we can use?

If not you are posting in the wrong section.

I put you up a correctly formated Tech Section post with your answer in it -- read it quick because as soon as the oil war starts again it will disappear like all oil wars do around here ....

Any flush you use will need to be MC safe.  That means it won't affect the clutch.  Some of those flush have strong detergents.  I would worry what they would do to the clutch....

Any time you flush any engine, you risk loosening particles that can move around and clog oil passages or become lodged in critical lubrication areas.  You can never be sure you drained them all out of the engine. Some will tell you that they have done it and all is well, but others run into long term problems.  Just because it 'seems' to work for someone, doesn't indicate what the long term effects will be.  The ONLY  trained expert I've seen on this site concerning oils and their properties is KwakNut, and I would suggest you ask him about this matter.
