Title: Saddle bags
Post by 4carbcorvair on 06/19/08 at 17:06:42

Thoughts and opinions on saddle bags? Which do you prefer, soft or the hard saddle bags? I'm thinking of getting a set, not sure what to go with. Is one better than the other or just personal preference? Thanks!!

Newb.

If you use the search function, type in saddle bags and set the time to "all posts" you will find a wealth of info on this subject. Even a guy who used ammo cans as saddle bags.

Mine's hard, and rather large.

Living in LaLaLand and keeping valuables in my saddlebags (helmet, gloves, parts, tools, etc.) I needed lockable hard bags if I wish to keep said valuables.

Mine:  Soft, limp, insecure and occasionally leaky.  But good looking.

You guys are corrupting me.

Honestly, mine have sentimental value, and are really handy for throwing stuff in on the way to work.  I like the way they look too.  But I would probably replace them with some hard bags that locked if I were going to travel on the bike much.  I don't carry much in the way of valuables around here.

Anyone have thoughts on the Suzuki OEM bags? Anyone use them and like them, not like them?

I need something to carry my extra stuff in, but don't really need the security of hard bags around my area.

Look at the willie and maxs slang bags,To big of bags on on s40 don't look right to me.

I have the OEM Suzuki bags and, like the engine guard, they are a joke.  They look great and they are durable and weather-resistant, but not very roomy at all!  They open from the top and it is very difficult to get them opened wide enough to stuff the cargo in.  I've scraped the top of my hands many times trying to hold the top open while I stuff something in there.

If you're going for looks and don't plan on carrying much, I'd recommend them.  If you're like me and take 100+ mile trips then they are definitely not the bags for you.  I've gotta learn how to post pictures on here.  May try to set up a photobucket account.

Ive never had hard bags, I like soft, because odd shapes can be stuffed in.

I'd like to have hard, but am working with soft right now... ;D

The soft are really great for me now because I have to STUFF loads of paperwork and things to run around town delivering. But I would prefer hard so that my gear does not get smushed.
