Title: Re: 86' sagave Post by T Mack 1 on 06/19/08 at 06:29:09 The 86 & 87 models had a solid intermediate gear in the starter system. This could (but not always) cause probelms if the bike was shut off during a compression stroke. In the later model years a different gear was used to allow a torque slippage. Are you going to inpsect the bike before purchase??? |

I did not know that. DO you think that's why I get a strange sound like the starter is engaged during shut down? |
Title: Re: 86' sagave Post by T Mack 1 on 06/19/08 at 07:44:02 The starter clutch is a one way thingy behind the flywheel/stator thing. When you shut off the bike (any year) you should get a noise from it as it spins down, since it's metal and has mass. I heard it on one of the Youtube posts.... if you have time use the link on the top of the Rubber Side down section to get to the Youtube searches. |
