Title: Carb
Post by Keith55 on 06/18/08 at 11:41:33

Hello all
Can anyone tell me about that little screw that has or had ,in my case, the plug over it. on the carb.  I can turn it but has no effect on the way the engine runs. can it be bad and can it be replaced? This thing will run for a minute then just stops. I have went through the carb replace all the hoses, replaced everything I can think of, What should I check next?
Thanks Keith

Yes that screw can be replaced, it costs between 3 to 5 bucks from the stealership.

When I turn it out it just seams to reach a place and stop.should I force it?

You'll have to ask Lancer on that one. He is the carb guru around these parts.

When I replaced mine I didn't have any problem removing it, it just unscrewed all the way out.

Mine was the same way, so I went up a jet size to the 55 pilot and it runs great now.  Your pilot may simply be too small.

I just went and made that thing come out.cleaned it good, and sprayed air though it. Then I went ridding down the darn road.  That was It..
Thanks for all the help.  All I needed to here was that it would come out.. The Clymer manual said not to tuch it is why I didn't do it before.

The Clymer manual also says to turn the engine clockwise when adjusting valves when it should be counter clock wise.

Yes  I got the clymer manual when I got the bike a few weeks ago. the first thing I did was to go through the carb because it had set for years. its a 1987 with 5400 miles on it, at least thats what it got showing on it, There were a few things in it that was just not there.
But it is sure better than nothing....

Very true, I personally believe Clymers + suzukisavage.com = ultimate repair/customizing manual.
