Title: used bike, Need Help! Post by seanbo on 06/15/08 at 21:59:28 A week ago I got a 97 savage w/ 8000+ miles for 500 bucks! The battery was dead cause it was guraged for 5 years. After a thorough inspection and jumping the bike to see if it would run I was sure it was well worth twice that. I have replaced the battery, drained the tank, changed the oil/filter and installed a in line gas filter. SO now I have some questions, #1 The bike was droped by the previous owner and in so doing tweeked the left handle bar clamp so that it is rotated about 5-10 degrees forwared. now the bolts on the clamp are flush and have no way I can see of removing. soo how do you fix that? #2 The bike needs new tires. Can I just buy tires/tubesand do it my self, or do thay need to be mounted and balanced by a pro. This is the first bike That I have actuly owned and any wisdom on the subject would be realy awsome. thanks! |

But I would take a pry bar and just bend it back into position. Use wood strips to protect the metal. 2) If you've never done it before I wouldn't. It's hard, and requires the right tools. And you're likely to pinch the tube. Have it done, it'll cost about $30 each mounted and balanced. where in cal? |
Title: Re: used bike, Need Help! Post by BurnPgh on 06/15/08 at 22:56:59 you CAN change the tubes/tires yourself but even if you know how it's a masive pain in the rear. Even if you do it perfectly it'll take way longer than having a shop do it and you'll swear like a sailor the whole way through. It's worth the $60 to have someone else do it and I'm all about DIY. |

Title: Re: used bike, Need Help! Post by buttgoat1 on 06/16/08 at 04:25:20 Good for you, sounds like a great deal. These guys are right, tires are a pain, but once you learn how to do it, it is really convenient to be able to do it yourself. I can change a tire now in the time I would spend walking up to the counter and giving my name. Course, I am the keeper of tires on 2 tractors, 3 lawnmowers, four wheeler, and untold pieces of equipment. You be the judge. |
Title: Re: used bike, Need Help! Post by BurnPgh on 06/16/08 at 14:31:07 after changing tires/tubes on my Rebel250 and my friends nighthawk250 I've decided its good knowledge if you get stuck with a flat on the side of the road but like I said, well worth the money to have someone else do it. |

Title: Re: used bike, Need Help! Post by verslagen1 on 06/16/08 at 18:33:18 Check out the tech section there's a tire changing article and to answer your question, only if you don't want it to hop. ;D |
