Title: LS650 Performance Specs
Post by markrider on 06/10/08 at 04:50:29

Owned a 1989 883 Sportster from 1989-2004.  Did the stage I performance mods (rejetted carb, low restriction air fiter and performance exhaust pipes).  There were plenty of performance specs, graphs and road tests around for these mods (there are even H.D. books dedicated to this subject).

I did the same mods to my 2005 LS650 (rejetted carb, low restriction air filter, Supertrapp w 14 discs).  My seat- of -the -pants experience tells me that my LS650 is much more powerful now (it feels more powerful with less vibration than my Sportster did).

Anyone know of a performance comparison test with a stock LS650 vs. a Stage I LS650?  Thanks.

I, too, have an 05 with Supertrapp & 14 disks. K&N airfilter, Header is gutted & is only the exterior wall now, 150 main & stock pilot. It Will deliver 51 MPG, but I usually get 45ish. The difference in the $$$ is about nothing & the grin factor easily justifies the added expense.

Yes, it's quicker, gotta be. OHH, I have one of Lancer's cams in it, too. It pulls a lot better than it did stock.

Im really interested in doing some performance mods sometime soon but Im curious to see if anyone has done any dyno readings with their modified bikes.

Odar posted some dyno results on his bike some time last year.  I believe his bike had a jetted/tuned stock carb, not sure about the filter, and a Jardine exhaust.  It resulted in some very respectable numbers and he did a fine job on the jetting and tuning.

I too have been dabbling in higher perfromance.  What I have done is re-jet the carb.  Now a 152-55 combo.  I also have a performance air filter and a shorty (drag pipe) exhaust.  I have noticed a much more excited Savage. (mine is a 95) and I can 2-up and easily get and hold 70 mph.  Only problem Wifey has is "it is too loud"...not for me though.  My mileage run consistantly around 55 mpg.

What comes in the header that you took out?

The header is double walled to keep the chrome from turning blue.

Inside is an ugly plain steel pipe.
