Title: Savage won't start
Post by fisch on 06/08/08 at 16:59:13

Hi
I have a suzuki savage LS650 and it will not start.  I have power at the battery, but nothing else.  Does anyone know if there are fuses in the bike?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Go to tech section, table of contents, electrical, electrical system.

If you remove the front seat and look on the right side, right below the seat, about halfway back from the front of the seat, you will see what looks like a two-piece plastic box.  Sort of looks like every other plug in the world.  Very nondescript, I thought.  Open that and you will find two fuses inside.

If you can't find it, let us know and I'll email you a photo of mine.  I happen to have the seat off right now.

Thanks for the info.  We found the fuse box and one is blown.  Will find out tomorrow if that is the problem.  Thanks,  Again.

There should be some spare fuses inside the tool box cover.

If you are sitting on the bike it's on the right side it has a lock on it.

I wish they would have thought of that lock feature in '87 or '88.  It's missing from both of mine.  I'm too cheap to go order one though.  Maybe I'll build one out of something.

Yeah, I could.  Wouldn't that be something.  A furry trim piece.  Maybe I could start a whole new line of motorcycle parts.  Call it "Furry Fenders" or "Biker Beavers" or something.

for mod'ing the cylinder to your key.

I have a spare C keyway if it doesn't match your ignition key.

OHH the people here.. what a bunch of Savages. You guys remind me of Judge Rhinehold, in Ruthless People, explaining to his little wife how it is Necessary to be hard, to be tough, as he gathers up a newspaper to scoop up a spider & put it gently outside. I hang out on another forum. They are nice to each other, but nowhere near AS nice. Ohh, & the religious thread wouldnt have been civil for more than a page.

I've got a lock on my '88... It's a real pain to get it on and off though. I just keep a little assortment of tools in my fork bag.

That's what I do too, and it works fine.  I just don't like that ugly black battery box that should be covered with something nice looking.  I'll figure out something to hide it.  I'll know it when I see it.  Fortunately, I've noticed very little decrease in performance due to the missing cover, so it hasn't been very high on my list.
