Title: Pre-trip bike prep Post by Hard Corps on 06/05/08 at 10:08:57 So, I'm planning on taking the bike out on about a 400 mile trip. This will be the farthest I've gone in one shot. The bike has just over 6,000 miles on it. The bike just got new brakes about 500 miles ago and the oil changed about 1000 miles ago. Tires have about 1500 miles on them. What do you recommend I check on the bike before taking off into the great unknown? |

Make sure you're not overdue on any maintenance items, check: fluid levels, air pressure, tire wear, brakes, etc. make sure nothing is loose, broke, or hanging off. |

Your backside may so otherwise... Get yourself a sheepskin seat pad or a set of the wood beads to sit on and your long distance comfort will be greatly improved. |

I would, however, remember to bring all of your gear plus a water bottle, a cell phone, and a wad of cash. 400 miles away from home is a pretty long ways away to be stranded without one of those things. |
