Title: Sporty Seat Mod - I like it  !
Post by strangeling on 06/03/08 at 17:34:20

After selling the solo seat so my boy can ride 2-up I bought an 05 Sporty seat for $50. It arrived today and I really dig the look and it feels really comfortable to me although I do also have forward controls.

Here's a pic :

Looks good! Nice, clean bike! Did you make the forward controls yourself? They look like just the thing I need for mine.

Thanks, the forward controls are made by Seeger Cycles. They are way expensive but I got a good deal from a member on here who was selling them of their bike.

I'll second the "looks good". I've got one of those seats but have not had a chance to install it yet. What kind of mounting system did you use? Did you fabricate your own mounting brackets? Paul

Forward controls really help the sportster seat mod.  Did you raise the front of the seat (spacer mod)?

I pretty much mounted it like Verslagens version in the tech section but I didn't use speed pins.
I have the front seat mount raised about 1/2".

Where did you get your seat?

For $50??

Was it hard to put on? Does anyone know how wide the sportster seat is?

It does look good!

I got it on ebay ! $50 shipped to my door. There are a lot on there you just need to be patient and you'll pick one up at a good price.

Its about 13" at its widest point.

The "how to" is in the tech section.

From what I have read it needs to be from a 2004+ model.  I just got one from a forum member.  In the front it fits well.  I am looking at different options for the rear mount.  On my 2004 the rear mount is coming to right where the tail light mount is.  So I either need to move the tail light or use the factory rear mount on the bike and bolt a piece of metal between it and the seat.  I only went around the block a few times with the seat but it did feel better than the stock seat.

Your right Keith 2004 and up will work.

Keith check the tech section on the mod and azjay explains what he did when he used the center tail-light hole and how he worked around it.

I was lucky because I had an aftermarket tail-light that I could pretty much move anywhere I wanted.

i changed my Tail light for a cats eye. Looks good and makes room for the rear seat mount.

If I knew how to display photos on this site (and I am a professional photographer), I would display my set up.  I put a 2" spacer by the rear taillight to make it work.

Then I put a gel pad covered by the Alaskan Leather buffer pad on my seat.  Very, very comfortable.

Tex - I copied this from an earlier posting - works like a charm. You'll want to copy the 'address' where the pic is stored.

Quote:
You must post the pic on a host site, such as MySpace.com, Bikepics.com, Photobucket.com, etc. There all free.  Then go to that site, right click on the photo and click "properties."  When the name (address) of the photo comes up (usually something ending in "jpg," highlight it and then right click to copy.

Then, come back to this site, open your post window, and find the place you want to insert the pic.  Put your cursor there and then look at the top of the text box.  There are two rows of buttons up there.  The third button in the top row, which looks like a tiny framed picture is the one you want.  Click it and two "img" brackets will appear where your cursor was.  Right click between the two brackets and hit "paste."

Tex,
What did you use for a gel pad and where did you get it? I've been looking at gel pads and can't decide where/who to buy it from.
Thanks,
AL
