Title: Savage converted seat.  From bad to worse
Post by Texasphotographer on 05/23/08 at 15:53:16

I bought a Savage conversion seat on Ebay.  I had to modify the bike to get the new seat to fit.

The new seat is no better than the older (stock) one.  Infact, it is probably narrower and just as plain uncomfortable.

Here is a photo of the new seat.  (it looks comfortable, but it ain't)

:'(

Tried to upload a photo.  Made it well under max size, but it will not upload.

I felt your pain.. multiple times.
It would be neat if people with seat issues could run around and visit all the seat mods that have worked for the various people to see what works for them.
What part of Texas you in?

here's #2, you can't upload a pic to the site, attach don't work.

You have to upload to another site and link it here.

Now that you've purchased a second seat, take the one you aren't riding, reshape it to fit your butt, either make a new cover or have it done, and you will be in heaven.  The seat I just finished (with no prior experience) is really a treat to sit on.  My longest run on it so far was only about 180 miles, but that was about 150 more than I could do on the old one before it started to hurt.

It is not difficult to do, and it is very inexpensive.

Thanks.  That is exactly what I plan on doing.  Went to an upholsetery shop today that features motorcycle seats as one of their specialities.  He said they could do it in a couple of hours for $60.00.

Liking this bike more every day. :D

Yep.  I did mine for about $20.  I didn't charge myself for my time.  I can't stress enough how handy it was to add a little here, sit on it, shave a little there, sit on it again.  When I was done, I had a seat that felt good to me.
It might not feel as good to the next guy, cause I didn't shape it to his posterior.  I'll bet it would still feel better to him than his stock seat though.

They sell a gel pad for the hd seats, been thinking of getting one to fill in the spoon.

Spoon?  Mine was like sitting on a rail fence, with one of the fence posts jabbing me in the, ummm, well jabbing me.  I think I might do the other seat a little different, now that I'm riding the first one.  Then I'll have a "on the road" seat, and maybe a flamboyantly colored "Going to town" seat.  I wanted to use some buckskin colored vinyl on the first one, but Kay didn't like it.  Now that I know I can do it, I might try that.

If the budget allows at that time, I will also look into foam options.  Gel, etc.

I know..  I was using that as an excuse to disguise the other (more obvious) signs of my increasing dementia.   :P
