Fuel gage switch is frozen in the fuel position. The shop guy says it's OK to leave there. Unless, you need to use the reserve! End of last season the switch was fine. First time out this year and discover it will not be turned by anyone. Being somewhat of a new rider, am hesitant to not get fixed. Is this something major and messy, or a usual/unusual occurrence for a bike/LS650. It's a 2000 savage. Any imput much appreciated. Thanks

Most likely frozen in varnish.

Try taking it apart, or as apart as you can get it and drop it a can of seafoam.

It's frozen because it doesn't know you're talking to it. It's called a "petcock", and it works best when you address it properly. I think it's related to the peacock, and is sort of vain...

I'd start with the recommended dose of seafoam run through the tank and then try moving it a little back and forth each way. Once is starts moving then let some more seafoam fuel mix go through and then move it further. It is dangerous not to have the ability to shift to reserve fuel position when you are operating in traffic so I would address it promptly. Max

Give it a shot of WD40 / Liquid Wrench / CRC. Wait a few minutes. Then, try to turn it just a few degrees one direction, then back. Do this back and forth for a while and it should start to be moved more & more .

carb cleaner works good too
