Title: LS650 - LS650P -LS650F
Post by Christian O Reilly on 05/20/08 at 11:17:23

This may be a newbie question but since I got my savage only 3 days ago, I feel allowed to ask such question :) So here we go : Does anyone knows what are the major differences between the LS650, the LS650P and the LS650F models?

I also wonder if there was major changes in the model between '86 and '04. I got a '02 owner's manual and I wonder if I can trust most  of it informations for my '86 model.

Thanx for any comments.

Christian

Main dif is the handle bars, the P suffix is for the pull back or buck horn bars.
The F suffix is for the flat or drag bars.
No suffix, what suffix? we don't need no stinkin' suffix.
the major diff between 86 and 02(actually 96 on) is 4 speed vs. 5 speed. if you get into the tranny, you may find that you're missing some parts.  I got a 86 clymers, anytime you want to trade, let me know.

In fact, I tested and bought the bike 3 days ago but will have it in my possession in only 9 days. So, it's 12 long days of waiting and reading everything on the net about the savage hehe. I'll send photos as soon as I got them! :)

verslagen1 : Thanx for your offer but I also got a copy of the 86-04 Clymer. If you ever think you could use an electronic copy of the '02 owner guide, let me know and I'll be pleased to send it to you.

Been there, got that.

Also have an '86 SSM.  If I ever get into the tranny, I'm going to find some extra parts   :o

Don't forget the switch from separate driver and passenger seats to a one piece seat.

Good luck posting the photos.  I spent most of the early hours of the morning yesterday trying to post a couple of photos of my new 2008 still at the dealers in his barn.  No such luck, could not post and after browsing through some other messages see I'm not the only one.

Thanx for all your suggestions. When I'll finished the basic maintenance work, I'll look look at theses modifications... probably starting with removing the sissy bar and a giving a polishing to the aluminium parts...

You gonna need a fork brace. I wonder if TKat would have enough call for them to justify another run?
