Title: Saddle bags Post by Texasphotographer on 05/16/08 at 19:07:55 I posted this in the tech section. A nice gentleman wrote me and told me I put it in the wrong place. So, am posting in what I hope is the right place. Topic: Saddle bags. I called an on line store and told them I had a Boulevard S40 and they sent me bags which were taller than the bike. Sent them back. What size saddle bags work best for the Boulevard S40? I want the type that can go over the rear fender and tie onto the frame. Just do not know where to measure. TIA. |
Title: Re: Saddle bags Post by Texasphotographer on 05/17/08 at 11:02:27 Is this too basic a question? I have seen that 21 people have read it and no one has replied. Would like to get a decent set, for my S 40, but do not want them to hang too low as the first set I got. Thanks. |

Title: Re: Saddle bags Post by ALittlebird on 05/17/08 at 13:47:41 I have the River Road classic compact. They fit well and hold a lot of stuff. There were Willie and Max's on it when I bought it but they had a huge burn hole in one of them and they didn't have the quick release buckles on the flaps. I also like the stiffness of the River Road. |
Title: Re: Saddle bags Post by vtail on 05/17/08 at 13:57:17 Got the factory ones. Attached bottom of bags with carbiners to factory saddle supports for quick dis/connect. Ride mostly without bags ;) |

Title: Re: Saddle bags Post by saratovich on 05/17/08 at 16:47:23 I was out looking at saddle bags this morning and ran across a well constructed, very stiff compact set at Bob's Cycle for $64.99. I did some research and found an S40 owner who just tagged them over his passenger seat, no supports needed. He did say that they block the passenger pegs if you are planning to ride two up. http://tinyurl.com/5bmyzf http://www.bobscycle.com/browse.cfm/4,63787.html An interesting take on a mounting system here: http://www.easybrackets.com/easybrackets_install_video.html I think some of the lads here could come up with a similiar (less costly) mount based on this premise. Good luck! |
Title: Re: Saddle bags Post by skrapiron on 05/17/08 at 17:20:30 The S-40 and the S-50 share a near identical rear profile. Same shock mounts, same turn signal location. Any saddlebags listed to fit the S-50 will fit the S-40 as well. If they don't list the S-50, look at the VL800/Volusia. Same thing. Parts are interchangeable. Or find a saddle shop/leather shop and have a set custom made. I had mine done at Lutz's Leather in Elwood City, Pa ( www.lutzsleather.com ) $280.00 and worth every penny. |

These are the ones I bought for mine. I have them mounted under the pillion just fine. But since i don't plan on taking a passenger I don't have to worry about the foot pegs. I cut one more set of holes to bring them up high enough off the muffler. 5 mins and I was done. I could have just thrown them over the seat but since I do ride everyday I wanted them secure. |
Title: Re: Saddle bags Post by FreeSpirit on 05/18/08 at 02:55:36 I have the hard/back type saddle bags and I dont use any support brackets. Learned a trick from Skatnbc....Just threw them OVER the pillion and attached them with - straps with buckles on them -to the bike.(and under the flap on SB) They work good, and very easy to put on and take off!(Thanks Skatnbc ;) I usually put alot in them,so they go nowhere :) |
