Title: Bike not starting
Post by Jimmer on 05/13/08 at 06:45:18

When to start my Savage turned over caught then stalled. Will not fire again, I know enough to check the flow of gas through the carb.If flow is alright what should I check to try and locate the problem. Bike as only been sitting for three days since last ridden. Any ideas will be appreciated

Thanks
Jimmer

If it hit a couple of times & coughed & died, I would look at the plug & see if it caught a bit of gas & is fouled. While it's out, check the spark.

It's obviously broke beyound all redemption. Quick, sell it to me real cheap before it becomes worthless.

Bike Fixer

You could buy my wife easier than my bike. Some things a man just doesn't part with.

Hope your wife doesn't read this board. You just  might be in trouble.  ;)

My wife does read this site, and she is a good sport about things like this.
She even enjoyed the remark, after all it was her suggestion. After 25 years she's got me almost trained to suit her. She is a great lady as as are most females.

Aw geez...is all that kissing up necessary :P

Anyway, you said, "my Savage turned over caught then stalled. Will not fire again"....What does "caught" mean?  What does "fire" mean?

Does it mean that you heard a boom as the starter turned the engine the first time?  If you did then most likely your plug is working just fine (firing).  I'd start by draining the carb, just to be sure there is plenty of gas in the bowl.  If it ran 3 days ago, and it "caught" once, it is probably not the ignition.

How old is the battery too?  If the voltage is too low, most of the current will go to the starter, and there won't be enough for a spark.

No kissing up here, just total respect for her.
The bike started then stop, started the second time then stopped again. Checked the carb, drained the bowl ,flushed with fuel, reassembled working fine. thanks for the help.
