Title: Front Brakes
Post by donhere on 05/08/08 at 19:06:35

Okay here goes, who can tell me if it difficult rebuilding the front bakes? I am feeling alot of give in the brake when I squeeze it, so I am thinking it is time to do a rebuild. Is there a kit for rebuilding it? And finally do you bleed the brake the same way you bleed the brake on a car?
thanks
Don

Is it leaking?
do the brakes drag?
do you squeeze the lever and it slowly goes down?
-time to rebuild.

Brakes spongy?
-bleed brakes.

Brake fluid not clear?
-change fluid.

I can sit still and hold the brake and feel it slowly go down to the handlebar.

Time to rebuild the master.

If I were you, I'd rebuild the caliper and replace the hose with a stainless steel one.

These are expensive but available

BTW: the tech section is for How To's, not questions.  Please post questions in rubber side down.

Okay I understand your comment about saving this area for Tech questions but the first question out of the gate was - is it difficult to rebuild a front brake, meaning caliper, second question which I see as tech is do you bleed the line in the same way that you do a car?
Sorry if I diidn't make that clear  but to me those are tech questions.

I haven't rebuilt either so can't say for sure, but I've rebuilt car brakes and they're easy.

Bleeding brakes are exactly the same.  This one is real easy, the master and the slave are within arm's reach of each other.

Well the section isn't for Tech questions - it's for tech how to's and tech reference.

Did you read the 3rd post from the top called -

to save yourself you're gonna have to document all that you buy to rebuild your front brakes here and give a step by step of what you did to rebuild your brakes with pic's.
