I finally got my forward control plates installed. Not a fun process but the end result is very nice. My inseam is 32 inches. The stock pegs had me sitting on the back of the seat which is very uncomfortable after 20 mins or so. The forward controls allow me to sit on the front of the seat which is much more comfortable. Also they make the leg position better. I painted the plates flat black. When I started to install them the paint chipped off way too easily. I then put 3 coats of spray clear coat on them. That fixed the chipping problem. If EdL's plates weren't available it would be worth spending the $600 for the German made ones. The ride difference is that good.

Have them powder coated, they're likely to get stone strikes. That paint won't last long.

is that the 4" set?

i am waiting on delivery of mine and i think i have decided to go black. That looks nice

It is the 4 inch set. I'm not taking them off to power coat unless they really start chipping bad. Maybe over next winter. My car is also black so I have a lot of touch up paint I can put on them.

That looks good keith. I was looking at the forward controls, but chose to go with the engine guard and highway pegs instead.

How is the seat treating you? Do you find it any better than the stock one?

Love the mods! Have a couple questions:

1. What kind of seat is that ... self made?
2. What are those bags ... don't see where they run over or under the seat?

The seat came from my bike. I had 2 so I added an extra inch of high density marine grade foam on top of the stock foam. For me, it was a big improvement over stock. It absorbs alot of vibration and feels 'soft and cushy' but still supportive. I liked it alot, but Keith would really be the most 'unbiased' person to ask....

Keith, on a side note, my wife popped in yesterday and said "Nice pic of your bike." Then she paused, and said "Wait, those aren't your bags. Thats your seat, but not your bags."

And I thought she never paid attention... ::)

The seat was self made by forum member scrapiron. I bought it from him after he bought a custom seat for his bike. The seat is more comfortable than stock but if I can find a Corbin seat from a Sportster I will replace this one with it. Corbin seats seem to fit me best. The bags are from www.leatherlyke.com. They sell for just under $500 and mount to the fender struts. They can be removed by just pulling some pins inside the bags and removing them from their mount posts. I had them on my 95 Virago and they worked well. They are big enough to hold a laptop or a gallon of milk. They are made of hard plastic and lock.

I cut the wire near the stand and put the leads together with a wire nut.

Cool site, never heard of it before. Your bags look like the T510 which are a bit bigger than the ones that go on the Savage ... unless they appear bigger than what they are. Those look great on there. I bought the OEM studded bags and I HATE them. >:(
