Title: New to the 650 single
Post by Mark G on 04/30/08 at 20:09:33

Hi all:
I have a 06 LS 650. Very low miles 130 (its my wifes). Its has been running good then all of sudden it won't start. It cranks but that's it. Tried jumping from a good battery. I drained the bowl, then re check ed and seem to be getting gas. Pulled the plug and I have spark. The plug was pretty dirty. Most of her riding has been slow speed stuff. Can the dirty plug make this big a difference and casue it to not start?
Any suggestions from you 650 wizards would be very appreciated.

How old is the gas?
130 miles on 1st tankfull?
Try reserve or prime, are you about to run out of gas?
How old is the oil?  Engines that don't run a half hour at a time are prone to collect moisture.
fouled sparky, replace.

Thanks for the quick response. Its the second tank. Added Stabil before putting it way for the winter. Its always worked well in my other bikes. About 2/3 tank of gas. Tried Reserve and Prime. Changed the oil before I put it away for the winter.
Putting a full charge on the battery tonight and sendin the wife out for new plug tomorrow morning. After all its her bike.  Hope that's the ticket.
Anything else you can think of?
Thanks again.

Hi Mark,
I see you're close by.  I'm up by Allentown (Emmaus, PA)

On my bike, when I choke it, I can't touch the throttle.   Seems to flood.   Of course, some of my other bikes I've had were the opposite.    Habits die hard.....

I would drain the fuel, put in fresh and try again.

Sounds silly, but is it switched on?

Have you accidently engaged the emergency kill switch by the throttle grip?   Never mind.  If you're getting spark, that's not it.

When i first purchased my 'scoot' I would forget to pull the clutch, the red switch would be in wrong position and other stuff.
