Title: Belt lube.  What kind?
Post by joeh100 on 04/27/08 at 16:31:38

I've loosened the belt as much as I dare.  The little belt tension tool pretty much shows no tension.  I also did the alignment via string method.

It got better, but still squeeks some.  What belt lube and where to get it?  Hopefully something I can get at Advance or Autozone, or I'll have to go about 50 miles for anything else.

Same question for the pulley bearing.  I want a good aftermarket one.  Can I pick one up at the local auto parts store or would I have to order one?  Anyone actually use one they care to recommend?

Any suggestions on either would be appreciated. Especially if you have already been down this road.

Before I gave up & decided the little squeaking it still did was just part of the ride, I used Gulf canning wax. Break off a corner & rake it across the blts lumps. Slings off & gets on the wheel some, but sure does quieten the thing down. Ive heard there is a dry spray & that footpowder/talc works well.

All I do is rub a candle on the outside edges of the belt, and that seems to work fine.  After about 1000 miles, or when I change the oil, I do it again if it needs it or not.  I change my oil around 1000-1300 miles.
