Title: An introduction
Post by Crotchrocket on 04/26/08 at 15:49:36

Hello all, I'm the new guy in town ready for some serious giving and taking of advise.  I come to you from the world of sportbikes.  Honda VFR, Yamaha YZF750, Superhawk, RC51...you get the picture.  I remember when the LS650 first came out.  My dad wanted one, while I was lusting after the Yamaha Fazer (remember those?).

So now I'm all grown up.  Took five years off from riding, but now I'm back.  I looked at all kinds of starter bikes in search of simplicity.  Rebel 250, 250 Ninja, etc.  Then I saw a familiar name on Craig's List.  Savage.  Intrigued, I checked it out and bought it on the spot.  A nice yellow 2000 model with under 6k mi.

This has to be the most babied bike there is.  The guy I got it from had my gaydar up.  I guess it's the closest thing to being female owned, while still being male maintained.  And for future reference, the bike fit in the back of my Chrysler Town and Country minivan.  Just had to remove the two bolts for the handlebars.  Rolled her in, tied her down and drove home with it.  I still can't believe I'm talking about racing an RC51 and now driving a minivan.  Oh how the times change...

Anyway, I'm in the far NW Burbs of Chicago if anyone's interested.  I live alone with a cat and three ferrets.

Back to bikes.  The darn shift linkage broke.  Looks like it was stuck in fifth gear a few times and the linkage broke where it bends at the shift shaft.  Part on order for eight bucks.  Oh well, these things happen.  Plus it will give me time for my wireless Sigma tripmeter to come in the mail.

That should be enough rambling for now.  I will now sink back into the depths of lurking.

-Geoff

Welcome aboard the most active MC webside in the world.
I too raced Ducati's and now I'm having a blast with this S(avage)40. Lots of info here. You can spend hours and hours reading about this bike on this great webside. (that's on a rainy day of course) :) ;) :D ;D

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

A couple of my riding buddies are "PFLAG Dads" -- they will definitely get a hoot out of that statement!

Welcome aboard -- and congrats!  You have stumbled upon the true easy riding, most bang for the buck, most smiles per gallon motorcycle around!

Now don't forget to post a picture.

Welcome aboard!  We all slow down at some point in our lives.  This little cruiser will out turn most other cruisers out there (if not all).  You have come to the right place!

" I live alone with a cat and three ferrets."

Wow, talk about pinging the gaydar!  :D
Welcome aboard. This is a great site.

Welcome to the site your feller, this is the best Savage/S40 source there is.

There was an age survey done last year and it seems that the average age of Savage/S40 rider that hangs out here is in their late 40's.  It just goes to show that wisdom, experience and knowledge all combine to support the best all around bike there is.   ;)

So, since I am in my early 30's, does this mean I am wise beyond my years, or just an old soul?

Actually, I just think it means that I like a mechanically simple, fun, fast bike.

Thanks for the replies.  I made a rookie mistake of buying a bike without first consulting my insurance agent.  Having come from the sportbike world, I've seen some redicules premiums.  So I was scared as can be when I phoned my agent to tell her about the new bike.

I wanted the same limits as are on my van at 100/300 plus 1000 medical for me and a passenger.

Imagine my shock and surprise when I was quoted, as a yearly premium, of $172.99!

My agent says they go by cc's.  That means I could get a GSXR600 squidbike for less than the Savage. :o  This is a strange world....

I'm liking this bike more everyday.  Just need to find a nice slip on.
