Title: Should I buy it?
Post by Jerry Eichenberger on 04/14/08 at 06:48:52

To all you gurus -

Please give me your frank opinion.  There's a 2003 Savage I've found that looks attractive.  Details:

3200 miles, original Suzuki windshield and saddle bags, gel seat, helmet lock, steering lock, front and rear light bars, crash bar with pegs, luggage rack, rear seat rest.  Never been down or in the rain.  Seller claims the cosmetics are flawless.  A 2 owner bike.
Seller is firm at $3100.

Should I spring for it at that price with those details?

Thanks

It's a good bit over www.kbb.com retail price od $2695 - but it has a number of extras - It would be worth a look and really does need to be flawless for that price and perhaps some service records.

Thanks for the input - I didn't know the KBB price.

I do really want to have a windshield and bags - but then, they can always be added.

Thanks again.

Some rough prices...

original Suzuki windshield, $150
saddle bags, $120 (inc brackets for stock)
gel seat, $150
helmet lock, steering lock, standard
front and rear light bars, $300
crash bar with pegs, $200
luggage rack, $150
rear seat rest.  $150
Never been down or in the rain.  Priceless

www.kbb.com retail price od $2695

That plus $1200 in excesseries plus the time or bucks to install.

Are the accessories that it has the same ones you would buy? If you pay over KBB prices, then yuo are buying those accessories. Some windshields are just better than others, & some just suit some folks better than others. Would you pick that one out to put on it? A front light bar could be real handy, rear, safer, but is that too much load? I wonder if the charge sysytem can keep up. Any talk about the battery? Original? Big Crank?? That would be nice. If the descriptiuon is straight up & you like the mods, then I would say its a decent enough deal. I wonder, tho, if you walked up & counted out 29 of those hunnert dollah bills, would he like that enough to go for it?
Is it close to home?

sounds like it has $500 worth of extras on it and is turnkey - if you have a look eyeball the rear tire - if it still has the factory IRC tires likely the rear is a little thin - now if has new tires - perhaps higher quality like the metzler me880's that would be a very reasonable price

Thanks, Guys, for your opinions.  I'll think about this one for a while - I do definitely want a windshield and bags, but I'm too ignorant to know the good from the bad ones.

Is there a windshield that is preferrable to those who know?

There seem to be several Savages/S40s that have shown up on Craig's list over the past few days.

With the weather now improving here in Ohio, I suppose it's "selling time" for those owners who want to trade up for the coming season.

Justin -

I think they are OEM bags and w/s.  However, I'm losing interest because this morning there seem to be several others, newer, fewer miles, at lesser prices.

The only "must have" accessories for me are bags and a w/s.  The rest is just icing, not the cake.

Thanks, everyone, for all your input - it's very helpful.

But remember every day the sun shines and it is riding weather the sale price tends to go up. Max
